Japanese hair ritual

Layering consists of superimposing several care steps. It's a Japanese ritual that we love because it makes hair shiny and strong. The hair layering step by step :

Step 1 - The vegetable oil

Step 2 - The shampoo

Step 3 - Detangling

Step 4 - Shine treatment

Step 5 - Drying

Step 6 - Styling

Layering will transform your hair once hair becomes a habit for you!

Step 1 - The vegetable oil bath

Our hair is naturally protected by sebum. However, we put them to a severe test: stress, pollution, UVA and UVB rays, water limescale, hair irons, petrochemicals contained in hair products... These aggressions end up suffocating our hair. The oil bath will help your hair to protect and strengthen itself. It is important to use the right amount of oil for your hair type to make a successful oil bath. To avoid greasing your scalp, you can apply the oil only to the ends. Warm a few drops between your hands and gently rub them into your hair. It's best to use only a few drops; otherwise, you'll have greasy hair despite your shampoos!

You can leave your oil bath on for 15 minutes before shampooing your hair, but the longer you leave it on, the better it will be. You can even leave the oil bath on overnight by wrapping your hair in a stretch wrap and a towel that has been heated on the radiator to help the vegetable oil penetrate.

Our 3 favorite vegetable oils
  • Jojoba oil: This oil is magical. It regulates sebum production. It is ideal for brittle hair. Rich in vitamin E, it will make your hair shiny and very soft.
  • Coconut Oil:  It is the ally of curly or frizzy hair. It is also ideal for fighting against split ends, and we love its smell which makes it irresistible.
  • Avocado oil: This is the anti-pollution oil for city girls. If you have dull, dry hair, this is YOUR oil. Avocado oil is one of the most penetrating. It contains fatty acids and vitamin E. It will stimulate growth and restore strength and shine to your hair.

Step 2 - Shampoo

One or two shampoos per week are enough to avoid damaging your hair. Daily washing damages the hair fiber because of the composition of the shampoos, the chlorine, and the limestone in the water.

After an oil bath, it is recommended to rinse well and shampoo twice. Adjust the water temperature so that it is not too hot and does not damage your hair. Gently massage your hair using your fingertips.

Make sure your shampoo's ingredient list is as clean as possible, or make a homemade shampoo by getting a neutral base and adding a few drops of essential oil.

Our 3 favorite essential oils:

  • Rosewood essential oil: its smell is sweet with woody and floral notes. It is ideal for damaged or split hair.
  • True lavender essential oil:  we like its aromatic scent, its action is soothing, and it is perfect for regulating sebum.
  • Atlas cedar essential oil: its scent is woody, and its action is purifying and anti-dandruff.

Warning: essential oils are forbidden to pregnant or breastfeeding women. Ask your doctor for advice.

Step 3 - Detangling treatment

There's nothing more unpleasant than working on your knots after a shower! Detangling and smoothing is a key step in layering because it deeply nourishes the hair fiber and tightens the hair scales. Apply the treatment only on the ends to avoid greasing your scalp, and leave it on for 3 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

Step 4 - The shine treatment

This step allows you to remove the limescale from the rinsing water and eliminate the last traces of soap that dull the hair. You can use a shine treatment found in organic stores or make it yourself.

Our 2 most effective at-home shine treatments:
  • Apple cider vinegar: Mixing two tablespoons of organic cider vinegar in a bottle of cold water makes a great shine treatment. Rinse your hair with this water. Don't worry; the smell is not persistent.
  • The lemon juice: After squeezing it, pour and mix the juice of half a lemon in a bottle of cold water. Rinse your hair with it, and it will be sparkling.

Step 5 - Drying

After the shower, start by gently blotting your hair with a towel and then wrap it in it. You can then let it air dry or use your hairdryer in cold air mode to avoid damaging the hair fiber. If you want to give them more volume, dry their head down.

Step 6 - Styling

To take care of your hair, make sure the accessories you use don't damage it.

Our favorite styling product:
  • Pure aloe vera gel: IIt's perfect for holding your style. For good conservation, it must be refrigerated.

You will find among the Ozaelle items many accessories that will inspire you for new hairstyles while taking care of your hair.
